QUILTS BY THE KENT QUILTERS
The Kent Quilters formed in 2014 and now annually create quilts to benefit different causes in Kent. This year they very generously created quilts around the theme of home for the benefit of Kent Affordable Housing. The quilts were displayed at area businesses during September and October as part of their annual “Quilt Walk.”
6 BIKES AND A TOWN
by Karen Eckmeier
21” by 21”
$125
Karen Eckmeier, aka The Quilted Lizard, is an award-winning quilter, international teacher, author, and pattern designer. With a background in drawing, but no sewing experience Karen taught herself how to sew in order to make her first quilt. That was over 30 years ago and she’s been hooked on fabric ever since.
Nature often inspires her work, and she shows the viewer what she feels in lines and colors. Her art is happy and upbeat, concentrating on the positive and whimsical side of life, as you can tell from the titles of her books: Happy Villages, Accidental Landscapes, Wiggles & Waves and Wearable Waves. Karen’s fabric techniques include raw-edge collage and topstitch-piecing, which emphasize her no-stress approach to playing with fabric.

EVERY WHICH WAY
by Alicia Winter
50” wide by approximately 40”
$500
Alicia Winter is a Connecticut native who came to Kent in 2001 via Crested Butte, Colorado. After a career breeding KWPN Warmbloods and raising two sons, she now teaches gardening to teens at Marvelwood School. A long-time knitter who came to quilting rather recently, Alicia especially loves handwork. She believes the fiber arts, especially intentional stitching, are a metaphor for a strong community. While each individual thread alone may be delicate, when working together, all the varied threads become a thing of function and beauty, each stitch celebrated for its difference and what it adds to the whole. When she’s not in her garden, sailing with her husband, or in the woods with her dogs, she's at her desk working on her novel.
